Chaplaincy

Create, Aspire and Excel to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10)

Chaplaincy is important to us.

Phil Nightingale, Chaplain
Rev Phil Nightingale

We have a developing team consisting of Rev Phil Nightingale – (Associate Vicar at St Mary’s) with the support of John Spence, Youth Worker from the Parish of Great Chesham.

Our Chaplain contributes to school life in several ways, including leading in Collective Worship, leading our Staff Prayer and Reflection opportunities and our School Services for those that want to take part in them. He also helps in planning and delivering our Thought for CHA programme.

In RE lessons and the Sixth Form our chaplain has a vital part to play in supporting lessons and leading debate and discussion.  Our Chaplain also helps the whole school in times of crisis such as bereavement. He provides a strong support role for our staff with his very popular ‘Come and talk’ afternoon sessions helping them with their spiritual reflection and wellbeing.

John Spence

Solid Rock is the Chiltern Hills Academy Christian Union. It takes its name from the way Jesus describes living according to his words - like building on a solid rock. The group meets in lunchtimes and is open to anyone. Many who come regularly would not call themselves Christians - for all who come, the group gives opportunities to discuss the big questions and hear from the Bible how Jesus addresses them.  The group is run by John Spence, the youth worker for the Parish of Great  Chesham, of which St. Mary's church is a part. It meets on Tuesday lunchtimes, usually in 0C4.

John Spence is available to support students with their individual spiritual needs.

The Chaplaincy is funded by the Parish of Great Chesham.

We are a Church of England Academy in the Oxford Diocese.
