Assessment and Feedback Policy
Effective teaching is a dynamic process that goes beyond just simply delivering the curriculum. For assessments to be effective, teachers at Chiltern Hills Academy outline the core knowledge we want our students to know and master over time. This understanding of the curriculum development underpins our approach to how we teach the knowledge and design informal and formal assessment opportunities to check what has been learned.
At Chiltern Hills Academy, we use assessment to create a firm bridge between teaching and learning with purposeful high-quality assessments that generate qualitative information to support teachers and students in closing knowledge gaps and create expert learners.
For each assessment cycle all classes in all year groups will get:
- A checkpoint in class activity, midway through the content which checks knowledge and/or skills required for the upcoming assessment, where feedback is provided
- The progress check, marked by the teacher with improvement comment/question and the achieved grade.
- A feedback lesson where multiple activities show the students engaging with the feedback.
