Safeguarding for Visitors

At Chiltern Hills Academy, every child has the right to grow up safe from harm. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we ask all staff, visitors and contractors to support us in keeping our students safe.

Your Role as a Visitor

As a visitor or temporary member of staff, you may have contact with young people during your time at CHA. To protect both yourself and our students, please remember:

  • Never be alone with a student unless the door is open and you are clearly visible.
  • If a child seeks your attention more than usual, pass this on to your school contact or supervisor.
  • Do not share personal contact details such as phone numbers or social media accounts with students.
  • Avoid physical or verbal contact unless it is appropriate for the purpose of your visit.

If you are ever unsure about what is appropriate, please ask a member of staff.

Explore the sections below to learn more about the safeguarding guidance, support systems and key information we provide to help keep every student safe, supported and well cared for.

Spotting Concerns

Sometimes visitors notice things that may suggest a child is at risk of harm, either in or out of school. This could be:

  • A change in behaviour or mood.
  • Signs of physical harm.
  • Expressions of extreme or radical views.
  • Words or actions that suggest abuse, neglect or exploitation.

If you have any concerns, do not keep them to yourself – even if a child asks you to. Reporting could make all the difference.

If a Child Speaks to You

If a student chooses to share something with you:

  • Listen carefully without interrupting or asking leading questions.
  • Reassure them they have done the right thing by speaking up.
  • Do not promise confidentiality – explain that you must pass the information on.
  • Report it immediately to a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are:
