Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP)

At Chiltern Hills Academy, we are proud to provide first-class sports facilities not only for our students but also for our wider community. In June 2020, our Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP) opened — the result of a strong collaboration between the Academy Trust, the FA, the Football Foundation, the RFU, and our local partners.

This modern, all-weather pitch is used by students during the school day and is also available for community use in the evenings, at weekends, and during holidays. Local clubs, including Chesham AthleticChesham United, and our on-site rugby club, benefit from the facility, ensuring that sport continues to thrive across our town.

A Pitch for All

The AGP is a full-size, FIFA-compliant pitch, designed for 11-a-side matches as well as 9-a-side and 5-a-side games. With floodlights, clear markings, and flexible goals, it provides a safe and professional playing environment.

Unlike natural grass, which can only be used for a few hours each week, our AGP can handle up to 80 hours of playtime, making cancelled matches due to waterlogged pitches a thing of the past.

  • Weekday availability: Until 10pm
  • Weekend availability: Until 8pm
  • All-weather surface: Playable year-round

Why It Matters

Sport brings people together, builds resilience, and encourages teamwork — values that sit at the heart of Chiltern Hills Academy. The AGP project was born from a clear local need: until 2020, Chiltern District was the only area in the region without an all-weather facility, despite hundreds of local teams training and playing each week.

Principals Insight

Thanks to the passion and commitment of volunteers, staff, and community partners, including the tireless efforts of Dr Mark Pegg, this ambitious project became reality. Supported by nearly £900,000 in funding from the Premier League, the Football Foundation, Rugby England, and local fundraising, the AGP now provides opportunities for players of all ages to train and compete all year round.

Our AGP is more than a pitch — it’s an investment in health, wellbeing, and community spirit for years to come. Students, families, and local clubs all benefit from a facility that inspires excellence, participation, and pride.

Sponsorship

We continue to welcome support from sponsors and donors to ensure the long-term success of this project. If you’d like to get involved, contact ch3g@chacademy.co.uk to discuss sponsorship opportunities.
