Chiltern Hills Academy is part of the Oxford Diocesan Bucks Schools Trust (ODBST). Overall governance of the Academy sits with the Trust’s Members and Trustees, who provide strategic oversight across all schools within the Trust. Our Local Governing Board (LGB) plays an important role in supporting the strategic direction and ongoing development of the Academy.
Governors are volunteers who bring a wide range of skills and experience, united by a shared commitment to our values and a desire to help every student achieve their full potential. Working alongside school leaders and ODBST, they provide support, challenge and accountability to help ensure the Academy continues to thrive.

Our governors also serve as Directors of Chiltern Hills Academy Trust, in accordance with our Articles of Association. They contribute their time and knowledge across a number of key committees, supporting and challenging the school’s leadership in equal measure.

Simon Austen, joined the school’s Local Governing Board in 2026, having returned to Chesham after nearly 30 years absence. Having served as the curate (assistant minister) at St. Mary’s church, he then served as a school chaplain before working as a vicar for 22 years, first in Carlisle and then in Devon. He has been involved in many schools over the years as a governor and has also served on the Church of England’s National Board of Education. Simon moved back to Chesham with his wife in 2024 and currently works part-time for Wycliffe Bible Translators as their Director for Ministry Partnerships and part-time as the Director of Training in the parish of Great Chesham. He has taught both Science and Theology and has published a number of books relating to the Christian faith. When not working and spending time with his adult family, he enjoys running, painting, gardening and hill-walking.

Nick Brown, a qualified chartered accountant, is a Diocesan-appointed governor at Chiltern Hills since May 2019. Nick and his family have lived opposite the school since 2007, moving to Chesham after many years living and working abroad in Russia, Turkey, Central Asia and Nigeria. Nick graduated in Russian at the University of London, became a chartered accountant in the UK before joining Ernst & Young’s fledgling Moscow practice in 1992. More recently he worked for The Coca-Cola Company and Xerox. Leaving the commercial world after thirty years, Nick joined the Royal Air Force Museum in 2019 where he works as Head of Finance. Nick is an active member of St. Mary’s Church, currently serving as a Deputy Warden and also on the District Church Council. He is also Treasurer (and plays the occasional game) for Chesham Rugby Club, which is based at CHA.

Graham has been a governor at Chiltern Hills and the predecessor school since 2009 and currently is Vice Chairman having previously chaired the Finance Committee and the Marketing Committee. His background is in business and process improvement and organisational excellence and holds a Diploma with the Institute of Management Services. Around 18 years ago he set up his own management consultancy specialising in business performance improvement and excellence, the application of standards such as the ISO management systems and business continuity and risk management. Graham is one of only 3 EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) Ambassadors in the UK and he is passionate about quality and the customer experience in any walk of life. Graham has worked for the public sector, not for profit organisations and private sector businesses in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Paul was appointed a governor at Chiltern Hills in September 2024. He has been teaching for four years and is currently the Subject Leader of Geography in a local secondary school. Prior to teaching, Paul had experience of children’s and youth work for a church in south-west London. He has recently completed an MEd with the University of Cambridge in Transforming Educational Practice and a separate qualification in academic management. Away from his work in schools, Paul enjoys playing the piano, walking in the Chilterns and spending time with his Emmanuel Chesham church family.

Reinhard is one of the elected parent governors. He has been clinical psychologist and psychotherapist in the NHS for 40 years in a variety of therapy, teaching, supervisory and managerial roles within mental health services, mainly based in Amersham and High Wycombe for the past 20 years. He is now retired from the NHS, but still works as a psychotherapist in private practice. He is also a Mindfulness teacher and has published several books and many articles in the field of psychology and meditation.

Sally Long became a governor at Chiltern Hills Academy in September 2024. She worked as a special needs teacher in a number of secondary schools across inner London before becoming Director of Inclusion at Longdean School, Hemel Hempstead, a role encompassing responsibility for special needs, English as an additional language, alternative provision and the progress of able, gifted and talented students. Since retiring from teaching Sally has worked as a Methodist presbyter in Cornwall and North Lincolnshire. She now lives in Chesham, where she was brought up.

Zoe is a local resident of Chesham, a proud parent of a CHA student and an experienced Senior leader of a London School. Having received her first degree from Southampton University, she then trained at the Institute of Education to become a teacher and now with over 20 years’ experience in the education system, still works as a qualified teacher of English and Drama and a leader of school improvement. She is excited to become a governor of CHA to support the school community and share both expertise and experience in any way she can. Zoe began her teaching career working in prisons and has since worked in a multitude of various school settings from inner London schools to Bucks Grammar school. Zoe has a passion for teaching and learning, her Master’s Degree in Education has equipped her with the fundamental academic knowledge to match her passion for this area.

Dr Kathryn Taylor is an experienced educator with nearly 20 years of teaching and leadership experience in secondary education. She holds a Doctorate in Education (EdD) focusing Teacher Professional Development from UCL, and has led initiatives in teacher development, digital learning, and curriculum innovation. Her subject specialism is Religious Studies and Philosophy. Kathryn is passionate about improving educational outcomes for all. As a school governor, she brings expertise in teaching and learning, staff development, and safeguarding, alongside a strong commitment to ensuring all young people have access to a high-quality education and opportunities to thrive.

Ian Lowe was appointed Clerk to the CHA Governing Board in September 2023. Following careers in publishing, transport, and data management, Ian trained as a Governance Professional with Herts for Learning in 2020.
Ian provides clerking services to a number of schools in Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and the London Borough of Hillingdon, supporting governing boards in the effective discharge of their statutory and strategic responsibilities.
