Harmful Sexual Behaviour

At Chiltern Hills Academy, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We believe that all young people have the right to learn and grow in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.

If you suspect an incident of HSB, you must REPORT IT.

What is Harmful Sexual Behaviour?

Harmful sexual behaviour (HSB) refers to sexual behaviour displayed by children or young people that is developmentally inappropriate, harmful, or abusive.

This can take different forms, including:

  • Peer-on-peer abuse – where sexual abuse takes place between children of a similar age or stage of development.
  • Child-on-child abuse – where sexual abuse takes place between children of different ages or stages of development.
  • Problematic sexual behaviour (PSB) – behaviour that is socially unexpected or inappropriate, but without an obvious element of victimisation or abuse.
Taking Action

It is vital that concerns about harmful sexual behaviour are taken seriously and acted on quickly.

  • If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
  • Concerns can be reported directly to our safeguarding team via safeguarding@chacademy.co.uk.
  • You can also raise a concern using our [online safeguarding reporting form].

Every report is treated with sensitivity and confidentiality. Our dedicated safeguarding staff will ensure that the appropriate support and next steps are in place for everyone involved.

Our Commitment

At CHA, we are committed to:

  • Listening to our students and ensuring they feel safe to speak up.
  • Supporting those affected with compassion and care.
  • Educating our students about respect, consent, and positive relationships as part of our wider safeguarding and wellbeing programme.

Together, we create a school community built on honesty, respect, compassion, and care for one another.
