Modern Foreign Languages at Chiltern Hills Academy opens the door to new cultures, experiences and opportunities. Through the study of French and Spanish, students develop the skills and confidence to communicate effectively in another language while gaining a deeper understanding of the wider world.

Students build their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through engaging and practical learning experiences, helping them become confident communicators and global citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.


In Modern Foreign Languages, students are supported to:

  • Make strong progress within an inclusive learning environment that supports all learners
  • Develop confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing in French and Spanish
  • Communicate ideas, opinions and information with increasing fluency and accuracy
  • Build a strong foundation of vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation skills

  • Explore the cultures, traditions and daily life of French- and Spanish-speaking countries

  • Improve memory, problem-solving and analytical thinking skills through language learning
  • Use specialist language and grammatical terminology accurately and confidently
  • Develop independence and resilience when learning and applying new language skills
  • Experience language and culture through enrichment opportunities, trips and wider learning experiences
