Y12 & 13 Degree Apprenticeship Talk
Earn, Learn and Get Ahead: Exploring Degree Apprenticeships
Last Friday our Sixth Form students welcomed Jacob Morgan, a degree apprentice at BaxterStorey, part of WSH Ltd. BaxterStorey is a leading hospitality business, providing food and hospitality services to workplaces and organisations across the UK and Europe.
Jacob spoke about the growing opportunities offered by degree apprenticeships, which allow young people to work for an employer, earn a salary and gain valuable professional experience while studying towards a university degree.
He gave students a practical and engaging insight into how to secure one of these highly competitive opportunities. Jacob applied to over 50 companies, keeping a spreadsheet to track his applications, progress and reasons for rejection. Rather than seeing rejection as failure, he used each experience to improve his next application.
He also highlighted the skills employers are looking for, including motivation, communication, problem-solving, teamwork and commercial awareness, and shared what he wished he had known when he was 17.
His advice was simple but effective: apply, learn, improve and repeat. A great message for our Sixth Formers as they begin exploring the different routes available after school.
