Building Futures: Year 9 Work Experience with Morgan Sindall

A group of our Year 9 students recently had the exciting opportunity to take part in a work experience visit with Morgan Sindall, gaining first-hand insight into the world of construction and the wide range of careers it offers.
The visit took place at the Morgan Sindall development site at Kingswood Primary School in Aylesbury, where a major expansion project is currently underway. What made this experience particularly engaging was the project’s strong focus on sustainable construction. Students learned about how modern building projects are increasingly incorporating renewable energy technologies and environmentally responsible practices, helping to shape a more sustainable future for communities.

The day began with an introductory presentation about the project and company, followed by the opportunity for students to speak with professionals on site. They asked questions and learned about different roles, career paths, and experiences, highlighting the wide range of opportunities in construction. A key highlight was the digital plant handling simulator, where students safely experienced operating machinery in a virtual environment. The session concluded with a group reflection and a follow-up task to reinforce their learning.
Experiences like this are incredibly important in helping students understand the world of work. By stepping outside the classroom, they can see how their learning connects to real-life careers, explore different pathways, and build confidence and communication skills.
We would like to thank Morgan Sindall for providing such an engaging and informative experience. It was an inspiring day that has broadened our students’ horizons and given them a greater understanding of future career opportunities.

From Courts to Classrooms: A Criminology Journey with Victoria Greenwood
Students in Year 10 and Year 12 recently had the privilege of attending an engaging and thought-provoking assembly led by guest speaker Victoria Greenwood former Criminologist & Solicitor & Trustee, Longford Trust
Victoria Greenwood brought with her a wealth of experience and a powerful personal and professional journey spanning criminology, law, and social justice. With a background that includes working within universities, courts, and prisons, she has developed a deep understanding of the complexities of the criminal justice system. Her work extends beyond these institutions through her role as a Trustee for the Longford Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting the rehabilitation and education of people in prison.
During the assembly, Victoria shared her inspiring journey, explaining how her interest in criminology developed and the paths it opened for her across multiple sectors. She spoke candidly about the realities behind crime and punishment, challenging common assumptions and encouraging students to think critically about justice, rehabilitation, and fairness in society.
Following the assembly, Year 12 students took part in a workshop that explored these themes in greater depth. Through discussion and interactive activities, students were able to engage more personally with the issues and consider how they connect to their studies and future pathways.
Victoria’s visit left a lasting impression on both year groups. Her passion, honesty, and breadth of experience provided a unique insight into a field that is often misunderstood. We are very grateful to Victoria for taking the time to visit and share her knowledge with us
