Mathematics

Mathematics at Chiltern Hills Academy develops confidence, logical thinking and problem-solving skills that students use across their learning and in everyday life. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, students build fluency, deepen understanding, and learn to approach new challenges with a positive and open mindset.

Students are supported to become confident in using mathematics in real-world contexts, while also developing the ability to think carefully, explain their reasoning, and make connections between different areas of the subject.

In Mathematics, students are supported to:

  • Develop fluency in core mathematical skills through regular practice and recall
  • Build confidence in tackling new topics and applying their knowledge in different contexts
  • Reason mathematically by thinking logically and explaining their ideas clearly
  • Solve problems using a range of strategies and approaches
  • Make connections between different areas of mathematics to deepen understanding
  • Use accurate mathematical language to justify and communicate their thinking
  • Apply their knowledge to real-world situations with confidence
  • Experience success and develop a sense of achievement in their learning
