Physical Education

Physical Education at Chiltern Hills Academy helps students develop the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to lead healthy, active lives. Through a wide range of sports, physical activities and fitness experiences, students build resilience, teamwork and leadership skills while improving their physical wellbeing and personal performance.

Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and develop a lifelong appreciation for sport, exercise and healthy living both in and beyond school.


In Physical Education, students are supported to:

  • Make strong progress within an inclusive learning environment that supports all learners
  • Develop physical competence and confidence across a wide range of sports and activities
  • Improve technical skills, fitness and overall physical performance
  • Apply tactics, strategies and decision-making skills in both team and individual sports
  • Understand the importance of health, fitness and physical activity for lifelong wellbeing
  • Set personal goals, monitor progress and strive to achieve their personal best
  • Develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills through collaborative activities
  • Build resilience, determination and self-discipline through challenge and competition
  • Analyse and evaluate their own performance and that of others to support improvement
  • Participate in outdoor, adventurous and problem-solving activities that develop confidence and trust
  • Understand the values of sportsmanship, fairness, respect and responsibility
  • Use specialist sporting and fitness vocabulary accurately and confidently
  • Explore a variety of roles within sport, including coaching, officiating and leadership
  • Gain insight into careers and opportunities within sport, health, fitness and physical activity industries
