Equality and Diversity

Our Equality Duty

The Equality Act 2010 introduced a Public Sector Equality Duty, which requires all public bodies to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

Protected Characteristics

The Equality Act identifies nine protected characteristics, such as age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. However, it’s crucial to recognise that there are other intersecting characteristics, as well as those not explicitly mentioned, that we actively support and advocate for in our EDI work.

Equality Objectives

Schools are required to establish at least one equality objective to address any areas of inequality, or possible inequality, identified. Please use the link below to see our Equality Information and Objective Statement for further information.
