Moving from GCSE to A Level or BTEC is an exciting step – but it can also feel like a big change. At Chiltern Hills Academy, we are here to make that transition smooth and supportive.
Our aim is to bridge the gap between the structure of GCSE study and the independence expected in Sixth Form and beyond. With the right preparation, students quickly grow in confidence and begin their new courses ready to excel.
Our experienced staff guide students throughout this journey, offering advice, encouragement, and practical resources. Transition work helps students to build good study habits, self-discipline, and independence – essential skills for higher education, apprenticeships, or the world of work.
To help you feel confident and prepared, here are some simple but powerful steps you can take before September:

Keep learning – Read widely around your chosen subjects to spark curiosity and build background knowledge.
Be proactive – Complete your transition tasks early and ask for help if you are unsure.
Build independence – Practise managing your own workload – this is a key skill for Sixth Form and beyond.
Look after yourself – Balance study with rest, exercise, and hobbies to stay healthy and positive.
Stay connected – Talk to teachers, parents, or friends if you feel uncertain. There is always support available.
To prepare for Level 3 study in September, we encourage students to:
