At Chiltern Hills Academy, we believe learning extends far beyond the classroom. Work experience is an important part of preparing our students for adult and working life. It helps them discover their strengths, explore possible careers, and gain the skills and confidence they’ll need for the future.
Work placements, shadowing opportunities, part-time work and volunteering all give students the chance to test out career paths and stand out when applying for university, apprenticeships or jobs.
Work experience is about more than just “trying a job” — it’s about building character, confidence and resilience. It helps students to:

Our students have experienced a wide range of placements — from healthcare, veterinary practice and finance, to theatre, fashion, technology, retail, care homes, charities, and engineering. Each placement provides valuable insights and opportunities to shine.

We work closely with students to help them secure meaningful placements. Bucks Skills Hub also publishes lists of employers open to work experience students, which can be a great starting point.
To support applications, students are guided on how to write CVs and covering letters.
We also share practical advice through Unifrog, including a short 2-minute video with tips on finding work experience.
Each experience is carefully chosen to give students the chance to build new skills, reflect on their ambitions, and take the next steps with confidence.
